I was super thrilled to receive an email from Alfred Nomad, who reached out with interest in being on CommUNITY Catchup to share his incredible artivism. This follows my second international chat for the CommUNITY Catchup series (Big thanks to Nora Rahimian and Christy at Inity!)

One thing that stuck with me about Alfred’s work is that it is socially impactful and intentional to promote healing, wellness, education and community. Mental health matters. It always did but this is becoming more apparent with the weight of the year. It impacts all people in all places and spaces and status ranges. Timely that World Mental Health Day was Saturday, October 10.

Alfred is an innate poet that hails from Indianapolis, Indiana and is now based in LA, contributing to various communities through an array of initiatives. Influenced by the greats like Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye, Jill Scott, The Roots and Common, to opening for Big Boi, MGK, Trey Songz, T-Pain and headlining his own solo tour to producing an annual festival as part of his culture brand LxVE (acronym for LxVE,Value, Everything and Everyone)– LxVE Fest – which happened on October 4, Alfred does a lot on stage and off.

He’s independent in his ethos but collaborative in his process; his latest album, Everything Will Be Alright is a real light and beacon, with real soulful jazz-laden production, the spirit of Hip-Hop and powerful prose that resonates with experience and impact.

We got into the fold to discuss Alfred’s inspiration behind the project, how he has grown as a person and multidisciplinary creative, his incredible initiative to offer mental health and wellness resources to artists, collaboration and more.
